I´m a sucker for textures. On pillows, blankets, curtains, clothes, shoes and even plants and art work - you name it, I dig it. Today, I got my fair share from a loosely knitted Helmut Lang sweater and a pair of woven leather shoes by Jil Sander Navy (both in store now).

Some textured parts of my home:

A carved wood painting

My favourite blanket

Bubbly pillow

A beautiful hanging plant in our bedroom

Like a lava landscape painting

An oil painting with very generous strokes
And don´t even get me started on shadow play...

But speaking of, (I can´t help myself, he he) when I co-owned and ran Le Shop Stockholm some years ago, we had such beautiful dresses in store by designer Sarah Törnqvist. There´s one in particular I have in mind that had a print of shadows from window blinds. I think this style is nothing but amazing even now, five years later.
Here, some stills from her collection film Gap, directed by Igor Zimmermann (2007):

Over and out, good night!

My days off are most rewarding when small projects are involved, here´s today´s do-it-yourself:

So what´s this? Well, our kitchen tiles are ok, white and plain, but some schmuck once decided it was a good idea to include a few still life ones, which I have a hard time coping with. This place was a rental just up to last month, which means you´re not allowed to change this kind of stuff. So a few years ago, I bought a book with photographs by artist Carl Johan de Geer, scanned my favourites and printed them on self-adhesive photo paper. Then cut and paste!
This rather simple procedure lasted for a couple of years, way over expectation. So, I thought, why change a winning concept? And just reprised it but changed two out of four images. This will probably last for at least another year then, which is sooo great since we don´t have enough cash to revamp the whole place right now, we´ll start off with one of the bathrooms, and repairing the kitchen floor.

The worn down houses are poetic and beautiful, and I l-o-v-e the young woman taking a bath in the sink. And the family in the car with the kids in the back reading adult magazines... Real life documentary beauty.
Amazing photographs, I will never ever get tired of looking at them.
Another very dear part of my home is this little installation of cast iron monkeys, they´re also hanging around in the kitchen:

Aren´t they the cutest? I inherited them from my mum and it´s a nice way to be reminded of her each morning. They always get me in a good mood.

Aren´t these guys just the cutest?

A tiny Paris street art orchestra!
Love love love, and I can´t help but include a soundtrack, enjoy Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark with their song Souvenir:

Just saw these from one of my favourite photographers; Wendy Bevan. They´re self portraits pulished in Ballad Of... Magazine, AW11. Absolutely beautiful!

We´re now comfortably checked in at one of our favourite hotels in Paris, Hotel Amour in Montmartre, which has quite a few unique interior details. Here´s an old hockey game from the basement loo, matching walls and roof in room 304 and ceiling artwork in room 403:

So yeah, what´s up?

Wow, have a look at these stunning (and admittedly a bit scary) photos by Tim Walker, modelled by Audrey Marnay and Kirsi Pyronen, for the October issue of Vogue Italia:

And then watch the film. Uh-mazing.
The work that has been put in to this production, so impressive... And the model casting is p-e-r-f-e-c-t. Fashion by Jacob K.
If film will be removed from YouTube, you find the whole story here.

This post is dedicated to Emilia, who e-mailed me and asked for a couple of paintings with hearts she once saw on my blog some years ago (when I was still writing Fashion Affair at the department store PUB). The picture wall in question was my own, but we moved house since, so I thought it´s a good time to share an updated version.
So here it is, now in our bedroom, since that´s the only room with proper high walls (we live in a loft so there´s sloping ceilings just about everywhere else).

The big one on the top is my personal favourite, it´s scraped and painted directly on wood by artist Niels Jensen. Another piece that has a very special place with me is a lithography by Baertling, the one with bright and bold colours in triangles. I inherited it from my paternal grandmother and grandfather. The rest of my family absolutely hated it, lucky me!
I also inherited some oil paintings from my late mother (the flower down below and the abstract face just by the lamp to the right), and I treasure these immensely too.

Zooming in on the hearts (below), the artist´s name is Gerhard Blum, and he´s indeed famous for his kings and queens paintings, they´re his signature. Ours are copied from copper plate and then painted on by hand.

You can buy his book Love/Crazy here. If you would like to get in contact with Gerhard directly, just send me an e-mail and I´ll forward it to him.
