Travel Report London

We took a day trip to London the other week to visit our friends at the PR and sales agency “A number of names”. Besides being a bunch of good looking, well dressed, proper pint loving men, they are also doing their best to promote such fine brands as Human Made, Bathing Ape, Bedwin and the Heartbreakers, Ebbets Field Flannels and a number of more names. One of these brands will be a part of the Nitty Gritty brand mix from next season. More info about that later on…
After a smashing Shepards pie and a local pale ale for lunch at the Albion we went to the Drake's showroom which is located above their shop at number 3 Clifford Street just off Savile Row. It a lovely little shop where you'll find their London made ties, Irish knits, Italian scarves and a small selection of well tailord coats and sport jackets.
Meetings done and still a few hours before the flight back to Stockholm we went to do some store checks and started at Libertys just to find that the Our Legacy boys managed to grab the best spot at the lower ground floor where the menswear are presented. Well done boys!
Off to Bloomsbury and the super nice little Lambs Conduit Street to say hi to the Universal Works guys, check out the Folk and the two Oliver Spencer shops and the Private v.c White shop. Proper Manchester produced jackets, outerwear and shoes.
London is really getting a lot of energy back and it feels very inspiring to be there, hopefully we'll be back soon for a number of more names…
The Bench - Roland Philippe Kretzschmar
Roland has been a loyal Nitty Gritty customer since the very beginning back in 1991. But this day, when we caught him on The Bench, his main purpose of visiting Krukmakargatan wasn´t to shop for new clothes, but to collect the latest issue of the Japanese Outdoor Fashion Magazine “Go Out”, sold by our shop neighbour Papercut. Thanks for stopping by Roland!
The Bench - Lydia Winters
One of our sweetest regulars is Lydia Winters, with the totally cool job title Director of Fun at Mojang - the company behind game sensation Minecraft. She has the natural quality of making people feel good in her presence, so we love every time she walks through the door of the store. And we are so happy when she tells us that she treasures the pieces she has bought from us season after season, this is just they way to do it Nitty Gritty style – invest in what you will love for a long time to come. Thanks so much for lending us your style on The Bench today, Lydia!
Parisian Chick or British Sophistication…
Well, maybe you are a little bit of both, or maybe you are all in with one look but at different occasions? Intellectual librarian at day and French gypset at night.
The Bench - Gisela Rydberg
This is Gisela Rydberg. She works at Nitty Gritty. Well actually she doesn't, but she's hanging out here a lot and she lives just up the street from our stores so she's more or less like one of us.
I have nothing to do if you take making clothes away from me…
… says Ichiro Nakatsu from Osaka. As a young boy he used to go to the America-Mura (American Village) area of his home town and visit the vintage store located there. At the time they offered a great selection of American casualwear such as numerous variations of five pocket denims, button down shirts, Hawaiian shirts, military pants and jackets. He did this with the purpose of finding something as beautiful, comfortable and well aging as his childhood overalls made of Cone Mill denim cloth.
Refined Craftsmanship and Rugged Italian Tailoring
Nowadays Barena is a very established brand among the high quality stores that share the same values as Nitty Gritty. Besides giving you a lot value for money Barena also allows you to be comfortable, yet elegant, relaxed bohemian, yet chic and safe in shapes, yet brave in fabrics.
Nitty Gritty Store Hours #3 – Slow Blow
This Saturday on March 7th, it’s time for another edition of Nitty Gritty Store Hours, when two DJ’s team up to play a 4-hour all vinyl set in the men’s store.
Comme as you are
Colourless yet not collar less. Rei Kawakubo's second line of her Commes Des Garcons universe named Comme des Garcons Comme des Garcons has created a spring collection that explores the symmetric, the patterns and collars more than colours.
”For years, I was the best-kept secret in Milan…”
The quote comes from Serbian born, Milan based designer Dusan Paunovic. With his self titled brand ongoing since 1999, he has kept true to his values of being very personal with his customers and clients. He keeps a small distribution in order to have control over it and to develop long term relationships with the stores he supplies. From this spring, that now includes Nitty Gritty.
Things that make a difference
Maybe you are aware of the heritage of Nitty Gritty, or maybe you are not? The whole thing started back in the early 90's with three guys who actually where more into northern soul music than fashion. But they still felt an urge to create a platform in Stockholm for different kinds of sub cultural phenomena's whether it was driven out of music, fashion, sports or whatever that they felt interesting for the moment. This is probably why we have taken quite a few different directions throughout the years, but still maintained our backbone of inspiration and development in the sub cultural sphere. We have always admired people that come from different backgrounds and makes their own things and are dedicated to their beliefs and that “goes all in”.
G-Shock X Kevin Lyons
G-Shock X Kevin Lyons Multi talented street artist Kevin Lyons has teamed up with Casio to design a limited number of their model GB5600B-K8. We are proud to be one out of very few selected retailers who can offer this unique timepiece. Included within the model’s Bluetooth capabilities are music control, time sync, incoming call alert, incoming email alert, incoming social media alert, phone finder, and out-of-range warning. The model was also designed with a tap-function that allows the wearer to double-tap the watch screen in order to silence the alarm/vibration alert.
Time for traditions
We always go on about how much we appreciate brands that know how to keep hold of their history and at the same time keep an eye on the horizon and into the future. That keeps them relevant, up to date and probably also in business for another hundred year or so. Christmas is similar, it’s the time when you value traditions and evaluate the year that has gone by and at the same time look into the hopefully bright future. You make new plans and promises both to yourselves and to your beloved.
Nitty Gritty Music - Store Hours
For the second edition of N.G.M Store Hours we are happy to invite the very talented duo and friends of Nitty Gritty, Människobyn. Starting at 12.00 this Saturday, they will set the mood in the Men's store with a 4 hour, all-vinyl set.
