Alfred Sargent

Alfred Sargent had learned how to make shoes from his father William and in 1899 Alfred started up a family business together with his sons, Frank and Harry. Alfred Sargent and Sons Ltd. were located in Rushden, Northamptonshire – the largest area of Goodyear welted manufactured shoes in the world – and the company has remained there for over 100 years. The Goodyear welt is a method of securing the upper and insole of a shoe, as an attach-point for the sole. When this sewing is performed on a Goodyear welting machine, it is a highly repeatable process.

Shoes made in this manner are generally regarded as the highest quality. Many of the old traditions of finishing that Alfred’s father William first used have been rediscovered with a touch of adaption and finesse to reflect today’s style and the quality demands of today's customer.
