John Smedley
There are not many brands still around that can brag about their 225 year old history but John Smedley is one of the few that can. It all started out as early as 1784 when John together with his business partner Peter Nightingale started their own brand. The place where it all begun was Lea Mills in Matlock, Derbyshire. Extra-fine New Zealand Merino wool from traceable sources is used to create the finest, seamless and lightweight knitwear in the industry. The success is built on using only the finest raw materials, employing the best workmanship and the spring water of the region to ensure that magical, soft, light quality, especially in their merino products.
In the 1980s John Smedley proved his leading position in the industry and knits collections for no others than Vivienne Westwood, Paul Smith, Comme des Garcon, Nicole Farhi, Margaret Howell and Katharine Hamnett.
At Nitty Gritty's Evergreen department you can always be sure to find the classic, V-neck, R-neck and roll neck knitwear in varying colours and sizes.
