Nike

As one of the most well-known brands in the world and with one of the largest collections around, it is hard to believe that Nike started out from the back of a car. The first pair of Nikes, under the name of Blue Ribbon Sports, where in fact sold out of a trunk. When Nike breathed its first breath, it inhaled the spirit of two men, Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman. On one hand Knight’s search for a way to make a living without giving up his love of athletics and on the other, track and field coach Bill Bowerman's search for lighter, more durable racing shoes for his running team. Today Nike has become the biggest global marketer of athletic footwear and apparel worn by athletes, sports fans and fashion aficionados alike. Nike has designed more of the most sought after collector sneakers than any other brands and has fairly earned its cult status worldwide. The Bode Rec. and Nike Astrograbber reimagines one of Nike’s first waffle-soled shoes: the Astrograbber, which was developed in response to the invention of artificial turf in the 1960s. The waffle sole emerged from the work of famed coach and Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman, who experimented by pouring rubber into a waffle-maker to improve traction for his student athletes.  Textile mesh upper, suede details, and a tonal leather Swoosh.

The football charm included with the shoe is a historical reproduction of commemorative charms from the 1930s-1940s, originally given to members of high school and collegiate teams.
